How to store La Belle Excuse olive oils
La Belle Excuse olive oils are products of exceptional flavour and quality… provided they are stored properly!
Here are our recommendations for preserving your olive oil’s properties.

How long can I store my olive oil?
Did you know? Olive oil doesn’t expire! Once the best-before date has passed, it will lose its flavour and nutritional properties over time. However, we recommend consuming it within 24 months of harvest and 8 months after opening to maintain optimal flavour and properties.
At what temperature should I store my olive oil?
Store your olive oil at room temperature, avoiding direct sources of cold, such as the refrigerator, and heat, such as the oven or a window in direct sunlight. High temperatures affect olive oil by degrading its aromas, increasing free fatty acids, and promoting rancidity.
How should I store my olive oil?
Store your olive oil in a cool, dry place, away from light and strong odours; avoid shelves exposed to sunlight or cupboards where you keep spices. This will allow you to preserve the olive oil for as long as possible without altering its taste or properties.
Transparent bottles, like La Brut’s, must absolutely be protected from light sources such as direct sunlight. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to store it in its original container if proper storage is not possible.
After each use, tightly close your bottle to prevent oxidation of the oil, which causes it to go rancid and changes its odour, aroma, and colour.
If you purchase your olive oil in bulk from one of our retailers, be sure to thoroughly clean your bottle between refills to avoid altering the oil.
Why is my olive oil cloudy?
Do you notice that your La Belle Excuse olive oil appears cloudy? Several factors can explain this!
Although they have undergone a decantation process, unfiltered olive oils, such as La Belle Excuse green and black olive oils, contain microparticles of natural sediment, such as olive pulp and skin, which can make the olive oil appear naturally cloudy when shaken. These particles will settle to the bottom over time.
If you have stored your olive oil in the refrigerator, you will likely notice that it becomes cloudy or opaque, or that crystals have formed in the bottle. This is normal: the monounsaturated fats in olive oil solidify when exposed to cold. Simply place your oil in a warmer location to speed up the process, and it will return to its normal appearance. However, avoid direct sunlight, which can affect the oil’s quality.
If you stored your olive oil properly, but it still seems cloudy, check its smell and taste: if they are unpleasant, it’s best to open a new bottle!
Whatever your preferences in olive oil, the important thing is to store it properly to fully enjoy its benefits, and above all, its taste!
